The Board of the Company includes credible businessmen with a track record of creating growth businesses in Jamaica and the Caribbean:

Alexander Melville, Chairman & Managing Director

​

Alexander Melville is the Managing Director of the Company.  He is also the Managing Director of group companies Tropical Battery and Diverze Properties, and Treasury Director of the Chukka Group. Alexander led the implementation of the group’s accounting and control systems and, together with Chukka Group director John Byles, led the strategic divestment of a twenty percent (20%) equity stake in the Chukka Caribbean Adventures group of companies in 2012, to JSE – listed institutional investor, PanJam Investment Trust.  

 

Alexander also sits as on the Board of Eppley Limited, a finance and investment company listed on the Junior Market of the JSE, and on the Audit and Remuneration Committees of that company. 

 

Marc Melville, Executive Director

 

Marc Melville has over 25 years’ experience in the businesses of the group, starting with his tenure at Tropical Battery where he was committed to learning the business “from the ground up”. Marc rose to hold the position of General Manager and is currently the Executive Chairman of Tropical Battery where he is responsible for strategic planning. Marc is also an executive Director of the Chukka Group, with responsibility for Sales & Marketing in its countries of operation which include Jamaica, Belize, and Turks and Caicos and, in the near future, the Dominican Republic.

 

Marc has been a member of the Board of the Jamaica Tourist Board since 2013.

 

Daniel Melville Jr., Executive Director

 

Daniel Melville has worked with the Chukka Group for over 14 years, mainly in the operations and marketing teams. Prior to joining he worked with Carnival Cruse Lines which helped him to gain a unique understanding of guests’ vacation preferences and needs.  Recently, Daniel was appointed as the Sales & Marketing Manager for Tropical Battery, where he and his team are taking many of the customer service best practices learnt from the successful strategies at Chukka and with some changes, working passionately to execute at Tropical. 

 

Robert Almeida, Non – Executive Director

 

Rob helped launch AIC Caribbean Fund and is a Managing Partner of Portland Private Equity.  He is an accomplished business person with a strong background in corporate strategy and operations. He was formerly an executive at Loblaw Companies, Canada’s largest retailer, and led the creation of a direct bank at Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. He has served on the boards of Columbus International and Advantage General, and is currently on the board of the National Commercial Bank of Jamaica.

Ricardo Hutchinson, Non – Executive Director

​

Ricardo has more than 10 years experience in the Caribbean banking sector providing corporate banking and capital markets solutions to clients across the Caribbean region. Prior to joining Portland Private Equity, Ricardo held the role of Associate Director- Investment Banking with a leading regional commercial bank where he was responsible for leading the structuring and successful placement of several capital markets transactions. He holds a Masters of Science degree in economics from the University of the West Indies and is a CFA Charter holder.
